Free WhatsApp link generator
Turn your WhatsApp number into a click-to-chat link. Anyone who taps it lands in a chat with you, with your opening message already typed. Put it in your Instagram bio, your Google Business Profile, your website, a QR code on the shop counter, or a Facebook or Instagram ad.
How a WhatsApp click-to-chat link works
WhatsApp supports a public link format, https://wa.me/<number>, that opens a chat with that number on any phone or computer with WhatsApp installed. Adding ?text= puts a message in the customer's text box. They can edit it before sending, and nothing is sent until they tap send.
The number has to be in full international form, as digits only: country code first, then the number, with no plus sign, spaces, brackets or leading zero. An Indian number written as +91 98765 43210 or 098765 43210 becomes wa.me/919876543210. The generator above does that cleanup for you.
Where Indian businesses use it
- Instagram and Facebook bio. One tap from your profile to a chat, instead of asking followers to DM you and then moving them to WhatsApp.
- Google Business Profile. Add it as your website or chat link so customers searching on Maps can message you directly.
- Your website. Paste the HTML snippet as a "Chat on WhatsApp" button on product, contact or pricing pages.
- QR codes in-store. Turn the link into a QR code for the counter, menus, packaging or visiting cards. Any QR generator accepts a URL.
- Ads. Facebook and Instagram can open WhatsApp directly from an ad. See the click-to-WhatsApp ads guide for how that differs from a plain link.
Writing a pre-filled message that gets sent
The pre-filled text is the first thing your team reads, so make it tell you where the customer came from and what they want: "Hi, I saw the Diwali collection on Instagram" beats "Hi". Use a different message for each place you share the link, so you can tell which channel brings chats. Keep it short. People send short messages and edit long ones.
What a link can't do
A wa.me link starts a conversation. It doesn't send messages for you or keep track of who clicked, and it doesn't let several people answer from one number. When the chats outgrow one phone, that is the job of the WhatsApp Business API with a shared team inbox. Replies to customers who message you first are service messages, and the first 1,000 a month per number are free. See what WhatsApp messages cost in India.
